These changes have improved the quality of homes in the area, including deck construction. With this we find a mix of materials that range from 40-year-old decks (Ipe, composites) to 5-year-old decks (pine, fir). One trend we have seen is Ground level decks (also called a floating deck or a platform deck) are decks that are close to the ground. When considering a new deck, one type of deck is the ground-level deck. This type of deck is a great design because of the dramatic appearance and design.

There are a number of advantages to ground level decks.

1. Get rid of the railing and steps.

Ground-level decks that are below 30 inches off the ground generally do not require railings. If your deck is low-enough, it may not require any steps. This allows your deck to offer unobstructed views and off a feeling that is less confined. 

2. Awesome for hot tubs and pools. 

If your home is a rental, or a second home, many homeowners here in Summit County need a hot tub. Hot tubs can be installed on any level deck, but a ground-level deck can more easily be designed to accommodate these features.
